MAC Pro Longwear First Impressions and Spring Look

For so long I’ve heard that for those with oily skin that MAC was the only way to go, and for so long I’ve listened and regretted each cheap foundation purchase which just didn’t meet my expectations – because I was getting desperate. To be honest, all I wanted was something that would stay on my hideously oily nose region for an entire day without the price tag and apparently I couldn’t have it for less than $40 AUD.

The past few months, my foundation routine has consisted on piling on 4 separate foundations that I’d bought throughout this period in the hope that I could survive a day at work without coming home foundation-free and red-nosed, and it still hasn’t worked, and so I gave in, and I spent the $54 dollars and from initial testing it seems to be money well spent.

The MAC Pro Longwear Foundation has a light, liquid-y consistency I haven’t encountered before and despite this the coverage I would describe as being medium to full, it’s build-able and it took very little to actually cover my face – which gives me hope that I will only have to purchase it every now and again. It dries nicely as well, it’s a light almost fresh feeling – almost as if you’re wearing nothing at all on your face – and I’m not complaining at all.

I also invested in the Pro Longwear Concealer, and watched as the large amount of acne covering my face right now vanished, just blending away into my skin. The consistency of this too, is quite liquid-y and the pump bottle means there’s the potential for a large amount of waste of product if you’re not careful, but aside from this it does the job, and it does it well – but of course I knew this, it’s been talked up so much it’s essentially as far as I can tell the holy grail of concealers, and I’m perfectly happy with that.

My spending at MAC yesterday didn’t come cheap, it’s something I had to save for and lets be honest, that’s not easy on a student budget, but I’m willing to make a sacrifice for skin with a good level of coverage that manages to stay on for an entire day. I only wish MAC Australia would match US prices rather than forcing them up to a point where we pay double if not more, simply for location. That, and the pump bottle on the concealer would be my only complaints, I’ve made the switch and I doubt I’ll look back.

I’m wearing something spring inspired today because after a week of crappy weather, there’s some sun outside and I felt like trialing my new products while playing with quite a few old favourites. Today I’m wearing:

  • Mary Kay Timewise Day Solution
  • Maybelline Coverstick Green Redness
  • MAC Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation in NC15
  • MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15
  • Maybelline Super Stay 24h Waterproof Powder
  • Australis Bronzing Powder in Sunkissed
  • Australis Paparazzi Perfect High Definition Blush in Shoot to Thrill
  • Face of Australia Eye Primer in Matte
  • Eyestudio by Maybelline in 05 Carbon Frost
  • MAC Stacked 2! Pigments
  • Sportsgirl Eye Like It – Eye Palette
  • Savvy by DB Eyebrow Pencil in Taupe
  • Aye Aye Captain Very Black Liquid Liner
  • Rimmel London’s Scandal Eyes Rockin’ Curves in 001 Black
  • TopShop Waterproof Liner in Ebony

That’s pretty much it for today, hopefully in a month or two I can do a more informed review on the MAC Pro Longwear products, as well as a few others I used today such as the MAC Stacked 2! pigments. If you have any questions etc. feel free to pop them in the comments, and as always, have a lovely day!
