There’s a fine line between too much and not enough makeup at work as far as I’m concerned. I tend to go over the top in some aspects but I totally scale back on others. This is always the case where my work makeup is concerned. I love bold lips. Be it bold red, dark purple or a fluorescent pink. There’s something to be said about self-expression through a single aspect of your makeup and it’s something I love. Nude lips with dark eyes. Love it. Plain eyes red lips. Double love. It’s about expressing yourself within the confines of your workplace appearance guidelines and I think it’s something I manage pretty well. Today, I’m going to talk you through a basic eye look coupled with a bright and bold red lip. It’s perfect for a night out so hopefully you find there’s more than the one application for this look.
I started off by priming my face with Mary Kay Timewise Day Solution, it’s a product I really love and it’s something I’ve been using for ages. I followed this by Maybelline Coverstick Green Redness to cover up any red spots around my nose, they were actually minimal today! I followed this with MAC Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation in NC15 and MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15. Contouring is my work enemy. I like to dust my whole face with Maybelline Super Stay 24h Waterproof Powder and then go under my cheek bones and along my temples with Australis Bronzing Powder in Sunkissed, following up with Australis Paparazzi Perfect High Definition Blush in Shoot to Thrill on the apples of my cheeks.
As always, I prime my eyelids with Face of Australia Eye Primer in Matte. I fill in my brows with Savvy by DB Eyebrow Pencil in Taupe and move onto my Sportsgirl Eye Like It – Eye Palette. I used two colours, the base was a light matte brown and I cut the crease with a darker brown that had a gold undertone. Next, dramatic liner. Using TopShop’s Waterproof Liner in Ebony I tight lined my eyes, followed by a dramatic winged liner using Aye Aye Captain Very Black Liquid Liner. I finished off the eyes with Rimmel London’s Scandal Eyes Rockin’ Curves in 001 Black mascara.
My lips are a combination of Lime Crime’s Glamour101 and Australis’ Mint Lip Gloss in Red. I think the gloss gives it a sleek look that really compliments the redness and draws away from the colour just a tad making it easy to rock this colour in the workplace.
The one rule I have is bold lips every day. The customers know me for it, and it’s something I really enjoy wearing and experimenting with. It works really well with a classy, simple eye look like this, and I’m hoping when I finally get around to it, it’s something I might be able to look into filming and adding to these blogs as reference. As always, I’m on the hunt for bold lip colours, so if you know of any I might like, chuck the names in the comments below.
