As of today I’ve been on WordPress for two years (a fact I ought to be celebrating considering I’ve not forgotten the password which in itself is a small miracle), in some ways almost seems crazy, considering everything that has happened in that time and the lack of time I’ve actually spent writing for the blog and the time I’ve instead spent gallivanting from continent to continent having some of the most bizarre but rewarding experiences of my life. It’s safe to say its been a fairly wild ride, but it’s one I’m glad I’ve been able to share on the blog at times.
Even if my posting is infrequent and I’m quite possibly the least organised person on the fact of the planet thank you for sticking with me throughout the insanity. This week I thought it would be good to get back to reviewing a few new things, I have been to Target this week and it turns out they’re really starting to stock a lot more of the NYX products and I decided to pick up a few things on the cheaper end of the scale. It’s been a while since I’ve actually bought any NYX products, I think mostly because I turned into a bit of a high end devotee for a while there, but unfortunately I’ve been brought back to my drugstore reality by lack of excess funds in my bank account after 6 months abroad.
Without further ado, the products I bought are:
- NYX Baked Blush + Illuminator + Bronzer in BBL09 Journey (Top Left)
- NYX Eyeshadow in Coquette (Top Right)
- NYX Eyeshadow in Fetish (Bottom Middle)
I find the concept of a blush, illuminator and bronzer in one to be a little odd, mostly because a shade this pink just doesn’t apply perfectly to really anything aside from being a blush. Even then, for me, a pink this bright is almost too light for daily wear as it doesn’t necessarily tie in with the neutral tones I tend to stick with all that well. However, this is mostly my fault and I acknowledge that — there is also the issue of the illuminator making your cheeks shimmer in a way that really isn’t quite right for anything below your cheekbones. What I do like about this product is that it is something light and perfect for spring and I think it is something more on the girly side which is something I have to admit my makeup collection does lack. I can see myself using this a bit, mostly because I can build up the colour and I think it’s something I can get used to however the consistency(?) or rather, the concept needs work. I really don’t think a colour such as this works as all three products and I certainly wouldn’t be rushing out to replace any old favourites with this.
The eyeshadows are a different story. I absolutely love both for entirely different reasons. Coquette, I love for the colour and the matte finish. I find it can be a little chalky in consistency and takes a little bit of product to build up a decent colour, however it’s the kind of taupe shade that I absolutely love using as an eyeshadow base and I do love washing this over my lid before I do any intense looks. It’s also quite pink so I have actually used it as a neutral blush on one occasion which I actually quite liked the effect of. Fetish is different, it’s actually similar to a number of shades I already own however it has a really beautiful golden pink undertone which is actually surprisingly pretty on the eye. I would say my one complaint with these is the cases. I am not a fan of the weird bow clasp design, and really I’m just going to depot them at some time which I have a video about going up soon. I feel pans such as these would be better in a palette rather than like this, or maybe that’s just me — we’ll see, but overall I’m really happy with these products considering they were roughly $5 AUD or so.
I often forget that I do like drugstore brands as much as my high end brands at time, and I think given time and a bit more space I could really build up a bit of an NYX eyeshadow collection seeing as I’ve been using the both of these almost every day of the week for the last week and have been super happy with them. I would say the disappointment in this haul for me is the blush, but then again when have I ever been a blush person? Perhaps it’s just me, but I tend to favor my neutrals a little too much to really ever fully enjoy such a bright pink shimmery shade for my cheeks. And at the end of the day, it’s just personal preference. Seeing as this our second birthday week I’ll be trying to post as much as possible. I have a couple of lipstick reviews, a pigment review and a foundation review to go — but you no the drill, no promises until those are posted.
Much birthday love,
