I was just thinking to myself that it’s been so long since I’ve reviewed a LUSH product, and being the self-confessed LUSH fan-girl that I am the time seemed right that and I found this sitting at the counter when I popped in to replace some of my empties last week I just had to have it. If you need to know anything about me let it be that I am a coffee addict, three a day at the very least more if possible and what really drew me to this product was the smell and the fact that I’m all too aware how great coffee has been on my skin. Caffeine is not only the perfect thing for waking me up of a morning, it’s the perfect thing to help scrub down and revitalize my skin, which is exactly what this mask does. I do really love the face and body masks — and haven’t had an issue with any of them so far, so this is no exception. It’s available for $16.95 from LUSH (or online here) and it’s the perfect addition to any LUSH or coffee fan’s collection.
Coffee has a tendency to tighten and brighten the skin. I’ve noticed this before, and it’s definitely got some truth to it. I’ve been using coffee for a couple of years and swear by it for exfoliating and this mask is no exception — it will exfoliate your skin. How could it not it’s got ground coffee through it! I also love the smell, it’s such a rich coffee aroma, and there’s just something so relaxing about that. I also love the effect it has on my skin. Each time I’ve used it my skin has felt more bright, tightened and the dry flakey patches on my face have vanished. I love these masks — they’re not an every day kind of product, I would say I do a mask twice a week and every other day I just do my normal skin care routine, and that’s what’s keeping my skin in shape at the moment. These are just something nice and relaxing and just different and considering how thick this product is — I don’t think daily use would be the best for targeting redness or acne in the way I want it to.
I think it goes without saying that this product is going to be messy. Coffee grains alone, if you’ve seen my review of any of the Frank Body products highlight just how messy coffee can be when applied to the skin. This is no exception. It’s sticky and messy but it’s just the right consistency for getting a nice thick mask.
Here’s a photo of me lounging around earlier this morning with the mask on:
As you can see it’s a super thick mask (once upon a time that would have freaked me out to the point where I’d find myself considering it a con, but how the Mask of Magnaminty changed me for the better), and I’ve found even if I wear it for 30 minutes or so, it definitely doesn’t dry down like some of the other masks, and that makes sense considering this one has agave syrup in it. If you’ve used it before you’ll know it’s easy for things to get messy with it. I like popping this one on early in the morning when I wake up and take it off 30 minutes later after I’ve caught up on the news of the day etc. I’ve found that a little goes a long way, I use a generous dollop and it covers my entire face like this. Considering the mess, it’s definitely one to wash off in the shower, unless you’re prepared for coffee to go everywhere.
At the end of the day, this is one I’ll be adding to my regular LUSH rotation, I’ll be using this and the Mask of Magnaminty which I still love to this day on and off — as in one of each mask per week so that my skin care is being switched up a little and we’ll see how my skin takes that over a longer period of time. But overall, I think LUSH has created yet another beautiful face product, a mask which feels luxurious while being handmade, vegan and made from products that are more natural than any other store bought mask out there. It’s a brand I continue to admire for their ethics, their approach to social issues and just the products themselves which smell beautiful and leave your skin feeling fantastic — something I have just come to expect from the brand.
