I mentioned on Wednesday that I was planning on releasing a video of me getting ready for Prom, and unfortunately as filming goes, the footage was about as unusable as some of the footage I used to film on my terrible webcam years ago. So instead in a strange throw back I decided to do an old school post and go through the process of getting ready with my words. Obviously it’s not as fun or interactive as a video, but at the same time it’s a nice opportunity to get some thoughts down in words. So let’s get started. The whole point of this blog post is for a University Ball we call Prom. It’s basically a formal night with drinks and music and it’s a lot of fun — however, I think this look is very much appropriate for an actual Prom, which is what I was going for. I got my dress about a week ago, it’s called the Moon Dance Maxi Dress $40 in the colour Mocha and it’s from PopCherry, and I will admit this is one of my first purchases from them but it literally arrived the next day and I was so impressed with the quality of the dress itself.
My makeup was a bit of a process, I ended up buying the Loreal Infallible 24 Hour Stay Fresh Foundation in Miel/Honey and this was because it’s a constant struggle to get my foundation to match any fake tan that I do being an NC15. I really loved this foundation, it blended so beautifully and it stayed on all night, and we’re talking it survived drinking, eating, dancing and a room full of people — and it was hot in that room, so this foundation is definitely an A+ for me, and I’ll definitely be looking into buying it as a drugstore option, despite it being incredibly pricey. But as usual, my makeup routine was something of an excessive process. I ended up going for a glowy, glittery look and I definitely felt like it worked with the dress. I wanted something light and bronze and i felt like I achieved that in the end. So without further ado, here is the incredibly extensive list of products I used:
- MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance Base Lumiere
- Maybelline Coverstick Concealer in Green
- Loreal Infallible 24 Hour Stay Fresh Foundation in 235 Miel/Honey
- MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15
- elf HD Powder
- Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Powder
- Nars Orgasm/Laguna Duo
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Sweets Glow Kit
- Benefit Brow Zings in Light
- MAC Lipstick in Faux
- MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette – Tempera, Golden Ochre, Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Warm Taupe and Antique Bronze.
- MAC Glitter in Reflects Bronze
- essence Get Big Lashes in Volume Boost
- elf Expert Liquid Liner
- Revlon Precision Lash Adhesive
- Ellure Eyelashes in Exaggerate No 141
- MAC Fix+
This was my first time trying the Ellure lashes, and I absolutely loved them, they were so whispy and the band was so damn thin which meant they blended into my lashline perfectly despite the fact the liner didn’t extend past the centre of my lashline. I also highlighted my shoulders and collarbones for the first time to bring out the bronze in the tan, and I was really happy with how the ABH Highlights held up on the body without a primer underneath them, which is never something I expected I’d find myself commenting on. Also, on the topic of the tan, it definitely darkened overnight, but it’s definitely still a nice olive tan rather than an extremely bronze tan which might just mean that I’ve found myself a new favourite tan.
Overall, I was incredibly happy with how everything held up, I didn’t do my own hair on this particular day as I had my hair cut and curled in the morning by a hairdresser, but everything was perfect. The makeup stayed on, and I found myself trying to get it off my face drunkenly at 1am and found myself encountering a bit of a struggle (I wonder why!). I also really loved the dress and how it sat all night, even though it took on anything that was dropped on it, I guess that’s the nature of satin — and there were plenty of drinks being spilt in that crowded room. I ended up finishing up the look with my Michael Kors clutch, black lace up heels, my silver PANDORA bangle and a matching ring and necklace from Ellani and I felt every bit as ready for Prom as I’d imagined.
