Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick Review

I feel as though I’m so well and truly behind the boat on this one that it’s sunk and a coral reef has had time to grow over it, regardless here are my thoughts on the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Sagittarius and Androgyny which I purchased from Princess Polly which I highly recommend as an option to Australian’s like myself due to the fact that it’s free shipping over $50 (and it arrived the next morning!) and there are some really good discount codes that come out every once in a while making things that little bit cheaper. In total, I paid almost exactly the direct exchange rate at the time for the 2 lipsticks (that being $25.37 AUD), and didn’t have to worry about hefty shipping prices, because they are a killer. If you are interested in any of Jeffree Star’s products, it’s definitely a site to check out seeing as they also have the recent MannyMUA Collab as well!

Sagittarius‘Sagittarius is soft nude mauve with a matte finish.’
This is a lovely shade, I’m just going to start with that. I saw this on Instagram and I just knew it was the kind of shade that I was going to love and it’s the kind of colour that just universally seems to flatter anyone. I was slightly concerned about the smell, seeing as I had been seeing videos about some sort of toxic odour, but I have to say this has a really soft and really nice sweet kind of scent — I believe, considering the packaging is red, I have a Christmas edition, so it’s got a gingerbread type scent — so any bad scent is something that definitely wasn’t worth me worrying about. I also really loved the pigmentation on this shade, it didn’t take any effort at all to get full coverage. It went on smoothly and wore beautifully, and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this shade — so it’s both thumbs up from me.

Androgyny – ‘Androgyny is a sultry plum mauve with a matte finish.’
I chose this shade, because it was kind of like Sagittarius, in that it was in the mauve family, but I wanted something darker that could really be more of a stand out on the lips and I was not disappointed. Reminding me of some of my favourite shades from Colourpop, Androgyny is dark and it is beautiful. It’s bold and doesn’t suffer the pigmentation problems that many darker shades seem to. It goes on in a single application and it goes on smooth. It was like butter. While it’s missing that soft ginger-bready smell that Sagittarius does, it’s not a bad scent, it’s just has that absence of a scent scent — it that makes any sense. I wore this for an entire day, eating, drinking and talking and it did not move. This formula is really just kicking all sorts of goals for me.

I understand that some people may be a little apprehensive about this brand, it’s owner does not sit well with everyone in terms of opinion, but whatever your thoughts on Jeffree Star, I have to say his makeup — and that’s the thing that matters here — is amazing. There’s a weight to the packaging, there’s quality in the formula and there’s clearly been a large amount of thought and effort that has gone into the production and that’s what matters here. I would say it’s one of the better liquid lipstick formulas I have tried and these two lipsticks are worth every cent I paid for them in my opinion. Considering the drama that has gone on with Jeffree and his brand — and it’s hard to miss, it gets splashed all over YouTube’s beauty community — I have to say I was apprehensive about his brand, but I’m glad to say I’ve given it a chance and it’s something worth considering if you’re even slightly interested in some of shades or formulas.

Overall, I have to say I really love this formula. It was pigmented and lightweight which meant it really only required one pass to achieve the desired effect. And something about it just screams money, from the really soft applicator to the packaging, there’s I’m definitely getting those high end vibes that I associate with Jeffree. I also loved how it dried down — it wasn’t cakey at all and it just stayed put all day long. It may have transferred a little to begin with but once it was fully dry I didn’t really have to reapply which was great. I also really loved how these worked with my skin tone, I wouldn’t say either was a nude on my skin, considering how pale I am, but they were beautiful never the less. Definitely the kinds of shades I would reach for every single day — and I’m definitely looking forward to building up my collection a little more considering how well these wore.
